The Ens d’Abastament d’Aigua Ter-Llobregat (ATL) has awarded a 102 million euro contract for the rehabilitation works of the Ter plant project (ETAP Ter) to the consortium UTE RUBAU – AREMA – FERROVIAL – CADAGUA.
The actions include the rehabilitation of the existing sand filters, the construction of a new reservoir and a pumping station, as well as the commissioning of a disinfection unit for ozonization and a new disinfection installation with sodium hypochlorite. The works have a completion period of 48 months.
The Etap Ter, inaugurated in 1966 with a treatment capacity of 8 m3/s, receives water from the Sau, Susqueda, and Pasteral reservoirs. It is the largest drinking water treatment plant in Catalonia and is essential for ensuring supply since, under normal hydrological conditions, two-thirds of the water consumed in the metropolitan area of Barcelona comes from this infrastructure.
It is worth noting that this contract award is part of the Water Management Plan for Internal Basins approved by the Government in May 2023, with the aim of addressing droughts and extreme weather phenomena in the current context of climate change. The strategy involves applying technology in modernized infrastructures to promote sustainable water use.
With this contract award, Grupo RUBAU adds another example to its list of projects that promote the circular economy through innovation, sustainability, and environmental responsibility.
