STUDENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF GIRONA VISIT THE RUBAU QUARRY FOR BEING AN EXAMPLE OF COMMITMENT TO THE ENVIRONMENT

October, 2023

On October 19th, our ARIDCAL Quarry (RUBAU Group) in Girona received a visit from students of the Environmental and Landscape Restoration Projects course at the Polytechnic School of the University of Girona. They were accompanied by Carles Barceló, the production manager at Aridcal, who could share his more than 30 years of experience with this group of university students.

This is the annual visit that these students have been making to our Quarry since 2010 because it serves as a clear example of professionalism and social and environmental commitment. The uniqueness of our extraction method stands out, making it unique in the region due to its focus on sustainability and landscape restoration.

It was in the 1990s when our Quarry set itself apart from the rest by choosing a change in the extraction model that, while it entailed a significant increase in costs, allowed for a reduction in visual impact by prioritizing the restoration of the landscape in the area. It is the only Quarry that can claim that, at the end of its exploitation, it gives back to nature what was borrowed, leaving a mountain that is morphologically identical to the original.

Furthermore, for the restoration and gardening work carried out after the exploitation, Aridcal has been collaborating with the Ramón Noguera Foundation since 2006. This nonprofit organization works to ensure the quality of life for individuals with intellectual disabilities in the Gironès region. The goal is to create employment opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities with the aim of improving their integration and quality of life in our country.

All of this warrants the visit of these university students who can see a real case of landscape restoration on-site and understand the extraction procedure that allows restoration. Undoubtedly, our Quarry is a clear example of our corporate group’s commitment to developing projects that promote the circular economy through innovation, sustainability, and environmental responsibility.
