RUBAU COMPLETES INFRASTRUCTURE WORKS AT THE LA LLAGOSTA INTERMODAL TERMINAL (BARCELONA)

September, 2026

Rubau has completed the construction works for the infrastructure and equipment required for the operation of the La Llagosta Multimodal Platform in Barcelona. The project provides the terminal with new access points, operational areas, and control, security and telecommunications systems.

The works included the reorganisation and improvement of access to the terminal, the installation of a metal canopy, a control booth, automatic barriers and OCR systems for vehicle recognition at entry and exit points. Card-reading systems and access control measures for vehicles, goods and pedestrians were also implemented.

The project included the development of 380 spaces for container storage, together with an additional 3,200 m² storage area. In addition, 74 parking spaces for trucks and 38 for light vehicles were provided, along with dedicated areas for maintenance, cleaning, refuelling and brake testing. The project also includes a fuel tank with a capacity of 4,900 litres.

Facilities designed for safe and efficient operations

In terms of facilities, Rubau delivered the sewerage, stormwater drainage and water supply networks, as well as medium- and low-voltage electrical installations. These works included conduits and cabling to supply power to the gantry cranes, together with indoor, outdoor and emergency lighting and fire protection systems.

The terminal has also been equipped with telecommunications infrastructure based on IP architecture, video surveillance, public address and intercom systems. Perimeter protection and intrusion detection measures have also been implemented to enhance security and enable comprehensive monitoring of operations.

The platform has been conceived as a strategic hub to strengthen rail freight transport and improve its connection with the Mediterranean Corridor and Europe’s main railway networks.

This project further strengthens Rubau’s experience in the delivery of railway, logistics and industrial infrastructure, consolidating its ability to develop complex projects that integrate civil works, facilities and advanced technological systems.

Below, we share a photographic report of the completed project.
