The Catalan Water Agency (ACA) has awarded the remodeling works of the Sant Gregori wastewater treatment plant (Girona) to the joint venture AREMA-RUBAU to adapt it to current and future sanitation needs. The contract, with an amount exceeding 6.5 million euros, includes the commissioning of the facility for 3 months and the operation and maintenance service for 1 year.
The project to be executed will allow the future treatment of 1035 m3/day of wastewater, equivalent to a population of 6,000 inhabitants. The plant will improve the quality of treated water by removing nutrients and implementing a refining treatment that will enable its reuse. The maintenance of the three current ponds located at the eastern end of the site is planned, allowing bird species to establish themselves permanently or temporarily during their migrations, as currently occurs, which represents a clear commitment to the biodiversity of the area. Additionally, a leisure and observation point will be adapted to observe the various bird species, and explanatory panels about the natural values of the area, the history of the treatment plant, and its new uses will be installed.
This is the third time this year that the ACA has entrusted us with a project related to water management in Catalonia, in this case with high ecological interest, since the infrastructure is considered a remarkable biodiversity area in the Gironès region.
