FIGUERES ENTRUSTS RUBAU WITH THE CONSTRUCTION OF ITS BIKE LANES

April, 2024

The Figueres City Council has awarded RUBAU the project to enhance the city’s sustainable mobility by expanding its cycling network.

The works involve the construction and signage of 14 new sections of bike lanes, which are generally bidirectional, segregated, and protected, or are signaled on sidewalks. In some cases, to implement the bike lane, it will be necessary to convert the street to one-way or widen the existing sidewalks. The project also includes works to adapt public spaces to ensure accessibility and improve safety across all sections: forming ramps, specific sidewalk improvements to comply with accessibility standards, or creating crosswalks at sidewalk level, among other actions. The project encompasses a total area of 14,055 m2 to form a total of 4.3 km of new segregated lanes (5.5 km including signaled shared sections).

With funding from the European Next Generation funds, the project aims to complete the bicycle circulation ring by connecting it to the city center and significantly improving sustainable mobility within the city.
