Mercats de Barcelona entrusts Rubau with the remodelling of the historic MercatdelNinot

December, 2015

ConstruccionesRubau, in a temporary joint venture with VIAS and CALAF, has been awarded the third and final phase of the remodelling of the MercatdelNinot.

The main activities to be carried out are:

  • Refurbishment and remodelling of the entire building, including the roof, giving the façade a new look by resurfacing the exterior.
  • Integrating the outer stands into the façade of the building, thus gaining space on the pavement and recovering the two closed patios on the Carrer Mallorca side as public spaces.
  • Creation of a new main entrance on Carrer Mallorca, with a large lobby with access to the market and/or the new shopping level (on the lower-ground floor) via ramps, steps and lifts.
  • Excavation and two-level construction with room for between 80 and 90 parking spaces for market customers, loading and unloading of goods and storage units.
  • The aim of these actions is to promote the dynamic character of the market and the reputation it has had throughout history as an important shopping centre.
