Celebrating Tree Day 2025 in the Gavarres

On the occasion of the International Day of Forests, celebrated today, March 21, 2025, Aridcal S.A. announces its reforestation project at our quarry located within the protected area of the Gavarres, in Girona. This effort is part of our environmental restoration strategy and reinforces our commitment to biodiversity conservation, in line with the guidelines of the Natura 2000 Network.

A project respectful of the environment

The Gavarres, a natural area of great ecological value, hosts unique ecosystems that require careful management. Our reforestation project, scheduled for February and March 2025, aims to recover impacted areas and promote natural regeneration while respecting the characteristics of this protected site.

Species selected for reforestation

We have prioritized the planting of native species adapted to the Mediterranean climate and the soil of the Gavarres, all of which are essential for preserving local flora and fauna. The selected species include:

  • Pinus halepensis: A characteristic tree of Mediterranean forests, drought-resistant and essential for soil stabilization.
  • Quercus ilex: A key species in the Mediterranean ecosystem, providing shelter and food for many animal species.
  • Spartium junceum: A hardy shrub that helps stabilize the soil and enriches the floral landscape.
  • Prunus spinosa: A shrub that supports biodiversity, providing food and shelter for birds and insects.
  • Pistacia lentiscus: A perennial shrub playing a vital role in the formation of Mediterranean scrublands.

Methodology and sustainability

The project will be carried out following best practices in sustainable reforestation:

  • Soil preparation: Conditioning the land to maximize planting survival rates.
  • Manual planting techniques: Reducing environmental impact through non-invasive methods.
  • Efficient irrigation
  • Continuous monitoring: Tracking the growth of planted species and their integration into the environment.

A legacy for future generations

This reforestation project in the Gavarres is not only an action to restore an area affected by our activities, but also a tangible commitment to sustainability and the protection of the natural environment. At Aridcal S.A., we believe that every tree planted is a seed of hope for a greener and more balanced future.
