RUBAU AWARDED TWO NEW DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS IN BARCELONA

July, 2017

RUBAU has been awarded two development projects in Barcelona by BAGURSA, the Barcelona urban planning management company.

The award of the contract to develop part of the site of the former Sant Andreu barracks (casernes) was announced in May this year. With a budget in excess of three million euros, the works will involve the development of 11,395 m2 between Carrer Gran de Sant Andreu, Carrer Torras i Bages, and Carrer Blau and Carrer Verd with the buildings facing onto the three last of these. The development will transform the area into the largest green space in the Sant Andreu district, complete with an ornamental fountain, two children’s play areas and a number of spaces where residents can play and relax. The works will also implement the first phase of the pneumatic urban solid-waste collection network, from the junction between Carrer Palomar and Carrer Fernando Pessoa as far as Carrer Torras i Bages.

The second project, awarded to RUBAU in June and valued at approximately 1.5 million euros, involves the opening up and development of Carrer Marroc in the 22@ district between Carrer Josep Pla and Carrer Puigcerdà. Carrer Marroc is currently interrupted by a double block between Carrer Pere IV and Carrer Cristóbal de Moura. The development aims to give the street continuity by splitting the block in two and developing the area according to the self-sufficiency criteria indicated in the urban improvement schemes and the Barcelona District 22@ Special Infrastructure Plan.

Both projects are currently at the pre-commencement stage, with works expected to get underway very soon. Barcelona residents can therefore expect to be making the most of these new urban spaces before the summer of 2018.
