The Tierra Bomba Consortium, of which Colombiana de Proyectos de Infraestructuras S.A.S. (a RUBAU GROUP company) is a member, has been awarded the contract to undertake coastal protection works at Bocachica and Caño del Oro, in the department of Bolívar. The Colombian Government, through the National Roads Institute (Invías), awarded the contract, worth more than 10 million euros, in December.
This project will advance longitudinal coastal protection with riprap by around 800 metres in each of the towns and sectors of beach will be regenerated in certain areas where they had disappeared. In addition, town planning works will be carried out, such as promenades and piers for boats (7 piers in Bocachica and 4 in Caño del Oro).
The waterfronts at Bocachica and Caño del Oro are currently battered by waves. Through these works RUBAU will fulfil the undertaking given by the Colombian Government to these two towns, mitigating the effects of this phenomenon on the coastline and preventing direct impact by dissipating energy before it reaches the shore.
